Colored Bifocal Contact Lenses
Thanks to the latest trends in technology, colored bifocal contact lenses can add a little color to your life!
It wasn't that long ago that people who had presbyopia (a condition of the eye that sets in with age and creates the need to wear glasses to read) were told they had no options other than reader glasses or bifocal glasses. These days, thanks to the ever-changing technology in the contact lens industry, not only are bi focal contact lenses a reality, but there are a variety of options with your bifocal lenses as well.
One of the most popular trends is to get colored bifocal contact lenses. Colored contact lenses are a fun way to temporarily change and have fun with your appearance, without taking more drastic measures such as cutting or coloring your hair, or getting plastic surgery. And, you can even get a few different colors of lenses, and change them out according to your mood or occasion.
Three Types of Colored Lenses:
- Visibility Tint: This slight tint on the lens is strictly to make the lens easier to manage. The tint helps to make it easier to find in the contact lense solution or if you accidentally drop it; but does not change your eye color. These lenses are usually tinted with a very light or blue color.
- Enhancement Tint: This type of tinted lens does completely change the color of your eyes; however, as the name implies, it is just enough to enhance your existing color. This is used most often by people with light gray, blue, or green eyes, who want to make their eyes a little more intense. Many enhancement tinted lenses are even designed with flecks that are found in normal eyes, to make it look even more realistic.
- Opaque or Color Lenses: This is a much darker lens, and can change your eyes to a completely different color. Opaque colors include the traditional colors, such as blue, brown, and green, as well as not-so-traditional colors, such as violet, amber, and black. Some offer even more unique options, such as having a pupil shaped like a cat's eye, or even glow in the dark. These, however, are true specialty contact lenses and most likely aren't an option for colored bifocal contact lenses.
With each of these tinted or color options, the center part of the contact lens (where your pupil is, which is the part of the eye that you use to see) is clear; so that your vision is never colored, tinted, or affected by the colored lens.
Of course, added benefits such as tinting might change the contact lense prices, so keep that in mind when comparing the different lenses online.
Thanks to technology, not only are you not doomed to wearing bifocal eyeglasses for the rest of your life, but you can have fun with your colored bifocal contact lenses too!
