The Right Contact Lense Solution

Finding the perfect contact lenses is the first step; finding the contact lense solution that best takes care of your lenses is the second.

Contact lenses are not only a financial investment worth protecting, but they also can make the difference in how you see the world.  Contact lenses that are not properly maintained eventually can be ruined from deposits and build-up.  This not only hinders your vision and can make the contact lenses unbearably uncomfortable, but can also lead to eye infections and even blindness.

If you are already a contact lens wearer and are experiencing discomfort or cloudy vision, perhaps you are using the wrong lense solution.  And if you are about to purchase your first pair of contact lenses, it is imperative to understand the importance of the proper contact lense care

Different brands of contact lenses can be incompatible with different contact lense solutions, and also with each other.  Always consult with your eye care doctor or your contact lensse manufacturer when you first purchase a new pair of contacts, or if you want to switch your contact lens products.  They will recommend which products to use with your particular lenses.

Unless you wear daily disposable contact lenses, you are going to need a variety of contact lense solutions to take care of your lenses.  You need to cleanse your lenses every time you take them out; daily if you have daily wear, or if you have extended wear lenses, whenever you take them out.  This means that you need a contact lense cleaner, and a solution to rinse and store your contacts (often this is the same product).  Some eye care professionals recommend that you use thermal heat to disinfect your lenses at night; others believe periodic enzymatic cleaning is best.

There are also numerous multipurpose solutions available today; which means you buy one product to cleanse, rinse, and store your contacts.  This can, if appropriate for your particular lenses, save you time, effort, and the amount of bottles necessary to maintain your lenses.

Proper care of your contact lenses goes beyond which lense solution you use.  Remember to always wash your hands with a non-moisturizing soap prior to handling your contacts, and dry your hands on a lint-free cloth.  Never allow the tip of your contact solution bottles to touch any surface at all; this can contaminate the solution and result in damage to your eyes or contacts.  Never use tap water to clean or rinse your lenses, and keep your contact lens cases and other accessories clean.

Most lenses on the market today need to be replaced every two to four weeks.  It is tempting to try to make your lenses last longer than this, to save money.  However, it is important to follow the instructions that came with your lenses, in order to maintain optimum eye health.

Once you find the lenses that are right for you, you will want to take care of them and make them last as long as possible; and that includes finding the right contact lense solution for your lenses.  Proper lense care not only will keep your lenses clear and comfortable, but is also imperative to keep your eyes healthy and infection-free.
