Four Tips for Buying Contact Lenses for Less

contact lenses for less

With a little bit of effort, it's easy to buy contact lenses for less....much less than what you would pay at your eye care practitioner.

1. First, you need to get a contact lense prescription from a qualified eye care practitioner. You need to do this for a few reasons; but most importantly, you need to have your eyes checked to make sure they are healthy.

Also, contact lenses are not “one size fits all.” Your eyes, like the rest of you, are unique. A contact lens that fits one person perfectly might not fit your eyes at all.  Improperly-fitted lenses lead to poor vision, discomfort, and potential harm to your eyes.

Finally, if you need multifocal contact lenses (to help with reading) or contact lenses for astigmatism, these specialty contact lenses require personalized fittings that only your eye care practitioner can provide.

Keep in mind that while you are not required to buy contact lenses from the doctor who checks your eyes, he or she is required to give you your prescription. That means you can take your written prescription with you and begin to research where to buy your contact lenses for less.

2. Research the different brands to see what each has to offer for your specific needs.  Some brands promote the fact that their contact lenses retain moisture and are the best contact lenses for dry eyes. Other brands resist deposit build-up, which is great for active people; and yet others offer tinting or UV protection.  Some brands offer extended wear, and others offer daily disposables.

Figure out what is important to you, and find a reputable brand that offers lenses with those particular benefits.

3. Begin comparing prices. Sometimes retail stores might have your contact lenses for less than what you can find them online; especially if you are willing to buy in bulk or bundled amounts (which is usually wise anyway, to ensure that you have back-up pair (s) on-hand when you need them). But usually, you can find the cheapest contact lenses online, as opposed to the brick-and-mortar stores.

4. When ordering contact lenses online, be sure to look past the initial price of the lenses. Many sites offer free trials, discounts for ordering numerous pairs, or discounted (or free) shipping.  Also look around on the site (and on the manufacturer's site) for coupon codes for even further discounts.

If you follow these four simple steps, you are sure to find the highest quality contact lenses for less.
