Custom Contact Lenses: the Answer You've Been Looking For!
If you've had problems finding the right contact lenses, then custom contact lenses might be a good option for you.
Many people, regardless of how many different brands or types of lenses they've tried, just can't seem to find the right contact lens. Either the fit is too uncomfortable, or the vision is never quite clear enough; or perhaps a combination of both. If this sounds like you, then you might want to consider getting custom lenses.
People who have severe astigmatism make up a large percentage of the people who need custom contact lenses. Many other people have keratoconus or irregularly-shaped eyes, which make it difficult to find comfortable contact lenses that also offer clear vision. People with presbyopia and need multifocal contact lenses also make great candidates for custom-fit lenses.
Most custom-fit RGP lenses use the latest in oxygen-permeable materials, which allow more oxygen to reach the eye than any other lenses. Part of the discomfort of hard contact lenses and some RGP lenses is the lack of oxygen that reaches the eye. With advances in technology and the materials used to make RGP lenses, however, higher oxygen permeability means better comfort. Also, when a lens is custom-fit to fit an eye, dryness is less of an issue since the lens fits more appropriately, and therefore dryness is less common.
Custom lenses are available in either soft or RGP contact lenses (RGP stands for “rigid gas permeable”). Most people with eye conditions such as severe astigmatism find that RGP contact lenses allow for better, clearer vision; if only they could fit more comfortably. Therefore, most custom contact lenses are RGP lenses.

The main difference between regular contact lenses and custom contact lenses is how they are measured to fit your eye. With regular RGP lenses, for example, the eye care professional (ECP) uses an instrument that measures the curvature of the eye in three places. With custom-fit contact RGP lenses, however, the ECP uses a different instrument that measures the curvature of the eye in over one thousand places.
This allows the manufacturer to create a multi-curved lens that is able to fit the surface of the eye much more comfortably. This custom fit, in combination with the crisp, clear vision that RGP lenses are known for, creates lenses that, for many people, are the most comfortable contact lenses they've ever tried.
Custom contact lenses usually are quite a bit more expensive than regular contact lenses; due to the extra work in fitting them and making them. However, if it results in finally having contact lenses that fit comfortably and allow you to see the world with crisp, clear vision, then isn't the extra cost worth every penny?
