Sharingan Contact Lenses

The latest craze in the contact lens world is Sharingan contact lenses.  These lenses are named after a particular eye, known as the Sharingan, that has been popularized by the comic strip series known as “Naruto” in Japan.

Naruto is a ninja-based fantasy anime series that stars a clan, known as the Uchiha, who have a unique ability to activate the Sharingan eye. This is also known as the Copy Wheel or Wagon Wheel eye, as the eye is made up of several pupils which are placed in the form of a wheel.

This looks similar to what a picture of a galaxy looks like; an outward spiral with periodic dots resembling the planets (or, in this case, the extra pupils).

But the appeal is not only in how the Sharingan looks, but in what it can do. This special eye has some very unique attributes; it can help the person foresee what his enemy is about to do, allowing him to counteract the attack before it happens.

It also holds a hypnosis-type ability, and also can memorize any ninja technique it sees, allowing the person gifted with the Sharingan eye to perform that move from now on.

Itachi, one of the main characters and one of the only few people in the world to possess Sharingan eyes, uses his eyes to predetermine what his opponent’s next moves will be. Itachi then can be prepared and therefore deflect anything that will cause him harm. He can also trap other victims in a type of illusion, just by staring at them with his Sharingan eyes.

As you might imagine, these are all very desirable properties in the ninja anime world; as well as in Japan, where Naruto is the second highest grossing series ever. And, as happens in pop culture, the demand for everything Naruto has skyrocketed; in particular, Sharingan contact lenses.

The level of authenticity varies when finding Sharingan contact lenses on the Internet. Some companies just call any red coloured contacts a Sharingan lens; while others use theatrical contacts effects to mimic the multiple pupils in a wagon-wheel layout.

The die-hard Naruto fans, of course, will settle for nothing less than special effect contacts that mimic the unique design that is so central to the plot of their beloved series.

As with any costume contact lenses, it is important to get a current prescription to ensure the lens fits your eye. Also, you need to care for your new crazy contacts just as you would any other pair of “normal” lenses; which means cleaning them after each use, storing them properly, and never sharing them with friends.

Just because your lenses are wild and wacky, it doesn’t mean that caring for them isn’t serious business.

So whether you are looking for the ultimate finishing touch for your Naruto Halloween costume, or just want to live out your Japanese anime obsession, Sharingan contact lenses are just for you.
